This is the first day and you will start with some easy climbs. After breakfast you will be brought to Peneda de Castro.
A granite massive situated at the highest part of the village. Originally its name was Penedo de Cheira because it was situated just above the village Cheira. Later in 1908 it was named Penedo de Castro as a tribute to the writer Augusto Simões Castro Mendes. This location offers an impressing panoramic view over Penacova and the `Livraria de Mondego´. This name means library and comes from the shape and position of the rocks which suggest them to be books on a book shell. The entire activity today is guided.

Day 3
today will be more challenging. With the guide you will go to Pombal to Redinha (Buracas do Casmilo).
Buracas is the name of a geological formation nearby the village Casmilo. Small recesses in the rocks are a result of the impact of steep chalk slopes and are probably formed at the cold period of the Quartair. These holes are about 10 meters deep and wide.
The caves are formed by grinding down of aisles, whereby the front of the aisle was opened. The Buracas are the remnants of one or more chambers from an existing cave in the mountains.
In this area a lot of climbing takes place. Strenght is middle to high.
At the end of the day you can book an extra overnight stay at Penacova or you can travel to Pombal (not far away) to stay there.
